2nd October 2010 – Poitiers, Tours to Marcon , France

A warm day today so we headed to Poitiers. It was just like Limoges and we parked below the city and walked this time through the university area – once more hardly any people around.

We found the city and the Saturday market so bought a nice hot chicken and some ham off the bone etc for today and tomorrow. Lots and lots of childrenswear shops here. Walked back through some botanic gardens which were very nice but was superseded by a chateau visit later in the day!

Had lunch (chicken of course) back at the campervan and then headed to Tours. However on the way we passed what was obviously a popular Chateau to visit so we parked and spent an hour or so at the most fabulous chateau. Will post separately a blog as so many photos – the grounds were amazing. We treated ourselves to a crepe afterwards (no coffee note!).

We headed then to Tours and arrived about 5pm. We were heading into the centre when we were diverted we presume because of an accident. We were driving down little narrow streets – no parking in sight so decided there was nothing at Tours to interest us and we would keep heading towards Le Mans.

However halfway to Le Mans we found another camping card camp (11 euros) so have stopped for the night. It is beside a lake and is very nice – a place called Marcon.

The countryside today has not been as beautiful as the Bourgogne area and definitely got better in the latter part of the day since Poitiers.

Lots of these caves in this area

The Poitiers version of the Statue of Liberty!

Very old door

Our only view really of Tours - two policeman denying us access!
