11th October 2010 – Urbrique, Grazalema, Ronda, Setenil de la Brodegas, Campillos, Marbella – Spain

Woke late again and went to the window to throw open the windows to find people coming and going madly rushing around so we got up!!

Went down to our breakfast which was actually rather lovely (if not much). We had a nice cup of coffee and a piece of flatbread toasted with jam and some pieces of cheese also. Geoff then headed downtown while I skyped home and packed up.

First stop was Urbrique where I bought some lovely ankle boots (grey to match the first trench coat) for only 24 euros! They are suede and rather lovely. Shoes are so so cheap here. I also found something I have been looking for ages for Kaisha but won’t ruin the surprise. This also was a busy little town and some great shops.

Great parking!
lovely street of shops

Love the tiles everywhere

Next stop was Grazalema – fabulous. We arrived and there was a band playing in the little square and people were up dancing. We took a video! We sat on the park bench enthralled by the lovely white village and the fantastic atmosphere. We walked around and found a restaurant for lunch. We are amazed at how cheap eating out is in Spain. I had a plate of different tapas (just to be Spanish) and Geoff had beautiful lamb chops plus a drink each and it cost just over 15 euros. Really enjoyed our stop here.

Such a treat to park after the camper!

Wonderful music - made us all want to get up and dance
and some did!

Lots of goat farms
Well say no more!

Our fab lunch and so cheap

Then it was on to Ronda (by the way thanks Arnold and Carolyn for the itinerary, it worked really well and was certainly more what we enjoy than another city!!). Ronda was different again – I guess more of a city. Fantastic views from the bridge and lots of shops. I bought a scarf and Geoff bought a leather bag and that was about it.

Amazing views down to the valley
The Pont

even horse and carts

more tiles!

imagine this street of cafes at night!

From there we went to Setenil de la Brodegas. I told Geoff that Carol had said they parked and walked this village but no he said we would drive around! Well are we glad we have the smallest car manufactured because it was the narrowest we have ever come across!!! What fun in our car though and certainly saved our feet. Didn’t see many shops though which is probably just as well. The houses are built into the rock – at one point we drove under the rock!!!

Note the width of the streets

See the rock!

We then headed to Campillos to look for some leather outlets. We found Zerimar – a fabulous leather shop and I did find things I would love but just too expensive at present!

We then headed to Marbella. Before we got there it got dark and it was so beautiful with all the villages in the hills all lit up – like a fairyland really!

A lake!

Gorgeous sunset

Finally got to our hotel and were pleased to find an English speaking man on the front desk as I had tried to phone to confirm our trip tomorrow and they couldn’t understand me. They also had not replied to my email so I was a bit worried.

We found out it was a public holiday in Spain tomorrow and we would be too early for breakfast so he suggested we go out to get something. We found a supermarket up the road but I think it must be one catering for Chinese and we couldn’t find anything other than a bagUette, a tin of peaches and some lollies that we recognized.

We are being picked up at 6.30am and it is now 11.30pm so off to bed. Very tired but amazed at what we have seen – very different countryside, villages and culture.
