13th October 2010 – Marbella, Spain to Paris, France

A long day travelling today. We set off from Marbella to the airport in the little Smart car. Once again travelling in the dark. It doesn’t get light until about 8.00am. Dropped rental car off – hopefully no issues – we took 100% insurance cover. We do have to get a 50 euro refund for petrol so that will be interesting.

Uneventful flight on EasyJet – quite impressed with this airline. We had three seats between us so that is always nice.

We arrived at Paris and the queues to get a day train pass were horrendous. Finally got it 38 euros later mind you! Hopped on the train – thought we had quite good seats near the entrance so bags could sit beside us – well you have never seen anything like the amount of people packed onto the train. It was just the worst 45 mins spent on a train with people hanging over me every which way – it wss ghastly. Almost put me off Paris altogether. About two hours later we got back to camp pleased to find campervan all intact.

We had some lunch (by this time 4pm) and even though I was completely over the trains in Paris we headed back in – two reasons being one we had paid for the ticket and two I really wanted to see the tunnel where Lady Diana died in Paris.

So three trains later and we were there. A few tourists also taking photos but no real commenuration that she died there. There is a big gold eternal flame and maybe this is for her (I will research it) but nothing on it to say so. There was however a couple of candles placed underneath it. There was also some graffiti on the bridge but not much really. You cannot walk into the tunnel its not allowed. The view of the Eiffel Tower was great as well.
We then headed to Moulin Rouge which was quite interesting at night. It is the red light district of Paris. We stopped at a café and had a drink and watched the world go by.

Headed back to our little village of Maisons Lafitte and had dinner there before walking home to the camp. Our last night in Paris.
