25th October 2010 - London, England

Well we had a magic day in London. The day was absolutely beautiful - cloudless skies. We set off from the camp determined to make a day of it. We caught the bus, an overground train and then the underground and headed of course to Buckingham Palace.

No changing of the guard today however as at this time of the year it is every second day. We had a lovely walk through Green Park. Of all cities I do think London is the best. Of course Paris and Rome are a close 2nd and 3rd! We then walked down the Mall (because we could) for the last time.

Then we went to Knightsbridge as the first time I went to Harrods it was absolutely crowded I was really tired and over it and of course I didn't think much of it. This time I really enjoyed wandering around it - particularly the labelled childrenswear departments - they were absolutely amazing - about 300 or 400 pounds for a dress for Kaisha! (I didn't get one!!) Also through the designer shoes and handbags - Jimmy Choos shoes about 400-500 pounds and Jimmy Choo handbag about 950 pounds! Unbelievable.

Then we had coffee and cake at a gorgeous cake shop just opposite Harrods and watched all the people coming and going.

We walked around the back streets near Harrods where there were some lovely houses and cars parked outside!

London is so full of important people. We saw a funeral today with the casket in a horsedrawn carriage with limos etc behind and like a London taxi in front - obviously important person or rich one. In Knightsbridge there was some kind of state car with police escorts and bodyguards following. Later on we saw the red carpet being laid out at Leicester Square for a film premiere etc etc.

We went to the Tower of London but decided not to go through it. The only bit I was interested in was the crown jewels and it would have been nearly 40 pounds for the two of us so we decided to go to a West End show instead.

We headed then to Picadilly Circus and Leicester Square where we caught a London taxi to Westminster Abbey to attend Evensong. I loved riding in the London cab - it was just sooooo London!!!

Westminster Abbey service was very interesting (and of course free to get in if you attended the service!)

Then we went back to Leicester Square via Trafalgar Square to get tickets for the show.

A nice dinner and then the show - a lovely way to end our time in this part of the world!

However when we went to catch the tube someone had thrown themselves under it and the Picadilly line was closed. We had to walk a couple of stations to find an alternative line for us to catch!

Got home very cold and very tired about midnight. We could not believe how icy everything was in the camper. Getting into bed was like hopping into the freezer - it may not have helped that the window had accidentally been left open or shut without locking anyway (whoops - very lucky nothing touched - wouldn't have been a good end to our trip!)
